Lightning Before Thunder

Thunder Before Storm

“ For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. “ Matt 25:27

 They were warned.


Over and over they had been warned.

In the beginning, the plagues caused discomfort, horror: all water turned to blood, millions of gnats covered everything, destroying crops and then came the flies.

Oh, the flies.

And the sores.


But because they would not listen, the plagues became increasingly devastating.


Each time Pharaoh hardened his heart, refusing God’s direction; eventually, God finished the ten plagues with the death of the firstborn son of every family, even livestock.


Only one action spared a child’s life: the sacrifice of a male lamb or goat to paint its blood over the doorway of the home.

The blood of this lamb saved the life of the firstborn, an early picture of the sacrifice of Christ, called a type.


This was also the first Passover.

The plagues witnessed in ancient Egypt were warnings—listen to Yahweh, the Father who loved them.

One might draw the conclusion that our world is in a bit of chaos.

We are surrounded by unhappiness, destruction, confusion, wanton disregard of human life, open worship of the gods of old and their prince. 
 (That lightning bolt was bright.)

And some might argue that the increased war drums against the nation of Israel are a biblical prophecy.

Worldwide leaders, as if they are gods, have laid plans for dealing with more global medical emergencies, even as their scientists experiment with disease, viruses and injecting animals with human DNA. (Do you see it now?)
 And one summer day, two powerful global leaders were inadvertently recorded casually discussing that soon, they will be able to live to the age of 150 years. This will be accomplished, they said casually, by transplanting organs taken from living human beings.
 Those leaders are setting in place a common monetary system that will control everyone’s lives: you—the commoner— will own nothing but you will be happy.
 The lightning bolts of clarity occur day after day, almost without pause— humans are enticed to “improve” their appearance artificially, genetically alter their bodies with the ultimate goal to replace the human body with a “perfect” artificial one.
 (Is that even real?)

Lie after lie is revealed, trusted institutions exposed as lying corrupt frauds. 
 We learn that human trafficking of children & women has been practiced on a scale we have never known.
 And underground tunnels, tunnels everywhere. Why?
 More Christians have been martyred for their faith around the globe than all history combined. 
 For them, the storm is here.

As we pull our eyes away from the political landscape, we wait between worlds while trying to rise above this one. 


Metaphorically the Bible often refers to light-the light of salvation-the light of Jesus that overcomes a darkness that cannot defeat this light.

Light exposes the foulness of what happens in the dark.


Lightning illumines the horizon: it precedes the crack of thunder that warns of an approaching storm.


As the time between the flash of lightning and the crack of thunder shortens, the storm closes in.
 Is it here? 
 Are these the days of Noah?
